Our Iceys

Our Introduction to the Icelandics

"It was a few years back, when we lived in Southern Indiana, that we first heard of (and saw) the Icelandic horses at a breed Demo at the 2001 Equitana in Louisville,KY.
We had managed to get some tickets and we took along with us quite the distinguished guest and very good friend who lived close to us at the time.Former governer of Indiana.Mr Edgar Whitcomb. We all had a wonderful day looking at all the exhibits and even Mr Ed (who was in his late 80's) wandered about the whole show taking in all the sights and sounds of all those wonderful Equine breeds!!
By far the most memorable time of the day was when we came close to the Icelandic Horse Congress exhibit..This very bouncy man in his chefs hat and apron came bouncing up and introduced himself as the Ambassador to Iceland.(Which we later found out to be true...!!).He heartily greeted a fellow politician (Our own Mr Ed) and started a wonderfully diplomatic conversation..Meanwhile we got escorted off to see some of the wonderful horses they had over on display..After petting noses and playing with the little ones we returned to find that Mr Ambassador was handing out samples of common Icelandic food..Shark was included along with (dare I say) certain places on a Sheep which I did not favour eating...Along with other such items..Then he produced a tray with some very neatly arranged paper cups..Which he ushered us to try with a wave of his hand...All we can remember him calling it was "Black Death"..What it was was a very interesting and potent Vodka..Yes..All this right in the middle of a HUGE Kentucky show...All taken with wonderful humor and gladly accepted from our wonderful host..!
All this just amazed us...The ponies were friendly and kind and willing, the people were so bouncy and full of life and the memory stuck in our minds for years.Seeing two distinguished gentlemen such as these dancing through the corridors of the exhibition hall was a treasure..A wonderful day!!!..

2001 Louisville Equitana....
For many years... Due to other equine commitments we sadly never followed up on the "Iceys"...But we certainly never forgot them...
Now Finally.. we have our own..We wish we had of been a little quicker to buy into the breed.. Now...We have our own little herd and they are just as sweet and special as we remembered them back at the show.."
We apologise for the poor quality of these first pictures but we have had the most miserable weather lately so everything is just a mire here on the farm. Not too picturesque!!..As soon as I can update these pages we shall post some nicer images of them all...

Sindri....

Sindri here is the oldest Icelandic we have..He is now a 6 year old gelding .Hes the "mother" of our little group and is very calm and sweet with the youngsters.(Even the three stallions we have with him).A great choice for one of our little group. He stands 13.2hh and weighs in at a (slightly tubby) 780lbs.He is the son of Kolskeggur fra Staerribae, USIHC 89100794.We have gently started working with Sindri this year and getting him used to the idea of being ridden.

Sindri has done very well in the past few weeks..he has settled in to the routine at our new place and has decided that "working" for his hay isn't too bad at all.He has taken to being saddled up very well and Sue is having a high old time with him...

Tálsın....

Tálsın is a stud from the same farm...He is to be one stallion prospect here on the farm.We will have to have him "rated" and trained but we are hoping for great things from this little guy..He is quite the forward one but we think quite the charicture to boot.....Another calm soul who LOVES to be with people. He now stands at 13.1 hh and 750lbs..Also the offspring of Kolskeggur.

Our sweet Stallion prospect heres hoping his evaluations will go well.

Draumsın....

Draumsın is another filly.Same age as all our other three youngsters..As with all the others we have been VERY impressed with the breed..Smallest of the band at 13hh and 750 lbs but quite the assertive young girl so we don't think she will have a fear of anything..

Tofri....

Our newest Stallion prospect..Tofri is now a sweet 2 year old stallion Pictured above with our Fell stallion "Prince".He is the stunning colored son of Kolskeggur fra Staerribae, USIHC 89100794 and has a wonderful tri-color pattern with loads of thick plushy fur..A very sweet boy and since we held out to keep him a stud will be a great addition to our range of stallions available for future breeding..He came from the breeders as a very headshy boy but is so sweet and snuggly now that we cannot believe the difference!!.Loves playing with our other icey stallion Talsyn.

A fine boy in his summer coat.

Imbrum from Bluegrass Islandics....

Another long yearling..."Imbrum" or "Imbri" was named after the pure black "Nightmare" in the Piers Anthony novels.."Funi frá Melstad is her sire and she is a treasure to have..Sweet and gentle she has made friends with our 17.2 Clydesdale Pippin and follows him around.(Especially at supper time!!).She has one white patch on her foot and has a little white "heart" on her nose so sometimes gets called the "valentine pony"..One of the nicest of the bunch...

**************

Kjor........

Another boy the same age as our "Imbri"is Kjor..Sweet and gentle he is not really too clever but he has quite the charicture all of his own...Perfect for a pony ride or kids horse we will look forward to seeing how Kjor matures.Kjor will be for sale but since he is so nice..We will look for a very nice home..

**************

Kjola....

Our newest purchase here on the farm has been Kjola..She is quite the sweet young girl with a friendly personality. We were told before we bought her that she could be registered but we since found out that she cannot....However she is so sweet we really don't care.

(Even though the breeder demanded a registered horses price after telling us a lesser deal and then told US to fraudulently claim her identity by signing that particular mares owners name!!!).

Just before we took all our horses from boarding at that place she was removed from our herd and the breeder who did it demanded the extra fee for a "registered" horse before we could take her back. All because we dealt with cash and trusted him to honor his own deal.We can let it be known though...We are just glad that we got her away from the callous thief who tried to take her away from us.She would have simply been a brood mare to him with false papers and to suffer starvation throughout winter..

(Not forgetting the loads of hay, tanks and other stuff that was taken from us,smashed, swapped and/or damaged without so much as a word to say for himself..)

Happy in Indiana with BIG buddy Pippin..
